Curated by Lia Lenti and Domenico Maria Papa and held in Palazzo Valentino in Valenza in December 2021, the exhibition calls on us to reflect on the theme of beauty and its ephemeral characteristics. Valenza goldsmith artists and companies met to renew a long tradition of exchanges. The exhibition involves some Italian and foreign artists, including Elizabeth Aro, who worked with Vendorafa Lombardi, thanks to the generosity and wisdom of Daniela Lombardi.

Roots and Branches is a soft sculpture that thanks to its branched structure is both branches and roots. It is articulated on the wall in a continuous interweaving of lines that build precarious forms but at the same time with a flavor of atavistic forms that evoke in us a very image, these forms are continuous transformations reflecting the light on the precious fabric. In this installation the use of the technique-craft of sewing returns, at the base of many past works of Aro, as a reference to a manual process that is also symbolically a weaving of connections and relationships.

Elizabeth Aro says about La fragilità degli abbracci / Raiz de luz: “This project is fundamentally a work of translation where the artistic idea is translated into a jewel and the jewel into art.
The greatest difficulty was to translate the sensuality and warmth of the fabric - which is the material I usually work with - into the metal which by its nature conveys the idea of ​​cold. Daniela and Vendorafa were incredible in understanding this need of mine and in interpreting it. The same sensuality of the fabric is now seen in the metal.
What I understood from this collaboration is that a jewel contains memories: the memory of who gave it, when and why, that is, moments of life. The most beautiful thing is that with a jewel you are never alone. A jewel embraces. For this reason, I decided to title my creation La fragilità degli abbracci / Raiz de luz. A woman embraced by a tree and its branches, trying to create a new connection between all of us. Especially in this difficult moment in which we cannot touch each other, the hug is what we miss the most.”
