Danza Nocturna

Danza Nocturna is the site-specific work conceived by Elizabeth Aro for the Principato di Lucedio, on the occasion of the eighth edition of Art Site Fest. With Danza Nocturna, the artist explores the relationship between humanity and the Earth, reflecting on the power and benevolence of Nature to which we are connected and from which we depend.
The installation consists of an old parachute and leaves made from precious jacquard velvet. "Velvet is a symbol of luxury and elegance," says Domenico M. Papa, artistic director of Art Site Fest and curator of the exhibition. "The leaf shapes that Elizabeth has given to the velvet evoke the Amazon rainforest: they are majestic, as Nature should be, but the colors used, black and gray, symbolize climate change, also recalling images of environments devastated by recent ecological disasters. The heaviness of the dark velvet leaves, contrasted with the lightness of the parachute, creates an effect of drama and unease."
"Despite everything," states Elizabeth Aro, "despite our indifference, Nature resists and continues to dance. Danza Nocturna is therefore a place of resistance for the natural dimension in the face of many threats. It serves to remind us that, despite dark and obscure times, we too can continue to dance."
Accompanying the inauguration, Eleni Molos held a reading of Figure Infinite, a story by Argentine writer Mariana Travacio, translated into Italian for the first time during Art Site Fest and published by Teca editions. Through Eleni Molos's voice, Mariana Travacio narrates the tale of a beautiful young woman, perhaps mad or perhaps a witch, who gets lost in the forest on a warm summer night: dancing, she disappears among the leaves as the sky suddenly changes condition, giving way to a storm.
