The works tell a mystery that accompanies us in every latitude: the movement of the sky between flashes of light and darkness.
Elizabeth Aro emphasizes the significance of the manual gesture in her creative process. She utilizes a variety of techniques—drawing, photography, sewing, and machine embroidery—each reflecting the diversity of languages she seeks to capture, embodying her identity that straddles both Europe and Latin America.
These pieces are part of the Nuvole series, showcased in the Inediti exhibition at Gagliardi and Domke in Turin, albeit presented in a different scale.
This series is inspired by the poem "Nubes" by Jorge Luis Borges (Argentina, 1899-1986), in the poem he says that there will not be a single thing that is not a cloud. It speaks of the change of things over time, of the reflection of one's own face that is already another face in the mirror. Clouds are a metaphor for thought trying to reach a desire.
Aro is interested in reflecting on the state of silence and internal earthquake of feelings, which are constantly changing. At first glance one could say that it is a formal study on clouds, but these acquire recognizable appearances of internal organs of a body. The code contained certainly seems familiar: stomach, heart, veins. The clouds intertwine as in a loom and squander their ethereal content between the sky and the earth. The poem ends by saying: “You are a cloud. You are sea, you are oblivion. You are also what you have already lost.”
Eres nube. Eres mar, eres olvido. Eres también aquello que has perdido.”
